coffee... says it all
The best part of waking up is Folgers in my cup. Actually, the best part of waking up or taking an afternoon stroll or sitting in a meeting or settling in for the night or visiting a friend or cooking dinner or... you get the idea, the best part is having an excuse to drink some coffee.
Apparently, there are some other notable personalities that have had a deep-seated appreciation for a cup o' joe as well.
“I put instant coffee in a microwave and almost went back in time.”
Steven Wright
"Without my morning coffee I'm just like a dried up piece of roast goat."
Johann Sebastian Bach
"Good coffee should be black like the devil, hot like hell, and sweet like a kiss."
Hungarian saying
"A morning without coffee is like sleep."

"Making coffee has become the great compromise of the decade.
It's the only thing "real" men do that doesn't seem to threaten
their masculinity. To women, it's on the same domestic entry level
as putting the spring back into the toilet-tissue holder or taking
a chicken out of the freezer to thaw."
Erma Bombeck
"I have measured out my life with coffee spoons."
T.S.Eliot
"The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which
the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea
cannot be expected to reproduce."
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
"Decaffeinated coffee is the devil's blend."
Author Unknown
"Way too much coffee. But if it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever."
David Letterman
"I never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the afternoon."
Ronald Reagan
"Coffee makes us severe, and grave, and philosophical."
Jonathan Swift

Love this post - I'm a big coffee fan. But how can you say coffee and Folgers in the same sentence?? absolute blasphemy :-)

Correction:
You may notice that I did not refer to Folgers and coffee in the same sentence, but they are in close enough proximity to express due concern. My apologies.
I must say that I have some fondness toward Folger as a company because they had Rockapella sing their jingles for a while. I'm a big fan of their marketing decision, but not of their product. Sorry Beth... and to all of the other truly loyal and highly caffeinated readers of this simple blog.

Okay, so I stumbled onto your blog via Margaret's. Great blog -- very introspective, authentic, and fun.
I have to say, I thought the same thing as Beth...Folgers and coffee shouldn't probably ever be in the same paragraph let alone the same page. But, you seem remiss enough.
What caught me as funny is that someone actually knows who Rockapella is! We used to sing their songs in choir in high school. Had forgotten that they did the Folgers jingles.
In any case, great blog. Enjoy the ride.
